The Vigezzina – Centovalli railway is an international narrow-gauge railway line that connects Italy (Domodossola) with Switzerland (Locarno) through the Alps.
One of the most iconic of the Alpine lines, with its famous panoramic route, is therefore, highly appreciated by tourists.
The illustration I designed, commissioned by the Associazione Musei Ossola and the Ferrovia Vigezzina Centovalli, is aimed at promoting the tourist aspect of the railway by highlighting its scenic and architectural beauties.
In particular, my image was used for a promotional poster for the tourist initiative “Escursione Illustrata Vigezzina“, a trek through the beautiful Vigezzo Valley accompanied by my live drawing.
Participants were given a postcard-sized copy of my illustration as a memento of the trip.
The illustration is inspired by vintage tourist posters, characteristic of the Alpine area, and merges in a single image the iconic aesthetics of the railway, the landscape and the architectural beauty of the valley (the building depicted is the internationally famous Re Satuary and a destination for pilgrimages from all over the world).
